Like many small rural communities, this waterfront community has seen its share of changes. Family gardens have been replaced by supermarket chains, kerosene lanterns have been replaced by electric lights. Gone are the days of the ox drawn plows and the Model A automobiles. The community has always enjoyed a close knit spirit, where neighbors have looked out for and helped each other. Although we have moved into the era of high speed technology, this little Town still embraces that same community spirit that it did in days gone by. In early 2008 that harmonious spirit brought the community together for a common cause, to preserve our unhampered lifestyle. ..
- It was the consensus of the majority that it would be in the community’s best interest to incorporate, thus allowing the Town to make its own decisions concerning its future growth and development.
- On April 21st., 2009, the residents voted in a referendum of incorporation, which passed by approximately two-thirds vote in favor of incorporation.
- At the time of incorporation this tiny close knit community had realized a history of one hundred and eight years. Its current population consists of 558 permanent residents, as well as a large number of home owners and property owners who live elsewhere and claim Perdido Beach as their home away from home.
- It has been said,“Perdido Beach is not just a place-but a state of mind”..

Dear Resident/Property Owner:
It is that time of the year that the Town will be mowing the rights-of-way.
This letter is to inform you about the procedures and responsibilities for private waste, including yard waste, bulky waste and white goods. The town has an agreement with Baldwin County Solid Waste to collect private waste on an individual account basis. There is no other means of waste collection available to the town’s residents and property owners.
It is the responsibility of each resident and/or property owner to dispose of private waste. Most residents/property owners have an account with Baldwin County Solid Waste and are eligible for “yard waste, bulky waste and white goods” pickup. Following are the Baldwin County Regulations:
DEFINITIONS:
Bulky Waste – furniture, appliances, mattresses, auto tires and carpet.
Construction and demolition debris will not be picked up.
White Goods – refrigerators, ranges, water heaters, air conditioners and other large appliances.
Swing sets, fence wire, etc. do not qualify as household items and are not picked up.
Yard Waste- Material resulting from landscape maintenance, including but not limited to grass clippings, leaves, twigs, etc.
Tree trunks or limbs over (2) inches in diameter are not considered yard waste.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Tires are limited to a total of (6) per quarter.
- Yard Waste is limited to (2) cubic yards per household per pickup.
- Rules allow for only (2) White/Bulky and (2) Yard Waste pickups per quarter.
SCHEDULING PICKUPS:
The Solid Waste Department will collect White Goods, Bulky Waste and Yard Waste from residential customers on a call for service basis. This service is provided for those items listed above that are generated from residential use of the property but does not include items generated from a business.
Your residential garbage account must be current to take advantage of these services at no charge. If your account is past due or you have no account then you may still dispose of these items by bringing them to the landfill and paying the normal scale fees.
PLEASE CALL BALDWIN COUNTY SOLID WASTE TO SCHEDULE A PICK UP WHEN TRASH IS PLACED ON THE RIGHTS OF WAY.
PLEASE CALL: (251) 972-6878, (251) 937-0249, (251) 990-4621 – Ext. 6825.
Hey Fellow Townsfolk!
The Public Works (PW) committee wants to pass on the following information so that you are all aware of what we have done and currently have in the planning stages.
The Rights of Way mowing has begun and there will be six (6) cuttings from May to October. Only the town’s rights of way will be cut by our contractor. County areas within the town’s environs are up to the Baldwin County Public Works and we do not know their schedule. When possible try to keep abutting rights-of-way at your property cleared for cutting during these months.
We recently completed roadwork on Maple Street and have surveyed several other streets in town that have been prioritized by the Town Council for this fiscal year. These include, but are not limited to:
Perdido Vista South
portions of Anniston
sections of Hildreth
East and West sides of State
With the surveys completed we can now schedule out the work. Keep in mind our budget is limited. We currently have a balance in the PW budget of $34,693.80 and $17,978.30 is available from the Gas & Diesel Tax fund. These amounts reflect only the invoices which have been turned in and paid out and may not be accurate at the time of this posting.
We hope that everyone has a safe and happy Summer. Please, be aware that you will see our contractors around town doing projects such as roadwork and right-of-way cuttings. Be respective of their work and for your safety and theirs do not approach them while they are working. Unless you see a need to interrupt their work for a clear emergency situation contact the Town Clerk at (251) 962-2200 if you have concerns about any of the work these contractors are doing. When possible do not confront our contractors directly, again, for yours and theirs safety.
Thank you and have a blessed day!
